Bus Seat Cushioning

Chestnut Ridge Foam, Inc. manufactures fire-resistant foam cushioning that complies fully with the fire performance criteria per FTA Docket 90-A requirements, and APTA standard Bus Guidelines.

All Safguard fire-resistant cushioning is manufactured utilizing low smoke polychloroprene latex compound. Cushioning is a breathable open-cell cushioning which can be manufactured in various firmness ranges. More than one firmness level can be selected within the same cushion to optimize comfortably.

Our CR Safguard, CR Safguard XL, and CR Safguard XL60 are superior in fire performance and for achieving maximum durability. CR Safuard XL60 is perfect for maximizing longevity for seat bottom thicknesses of 2" or less.

CR Safguard is only recommended for seat backs, headrest, and miscellaneous application. For seat bottom applications, CR Safguard XL and CR Safguard XL60 are always recommended to optimize durability.

All CR Safguard products are available as cut-to-shape cushions ready to upholster, and as sheet stock for in-house upholstery purposes. The product is available to all O.E.M. seating manufacturers and directly to transportation authorities for maintenance retrofit cushions.

The use of CR Safguard XL helps eliminate the liability associated with traditional FMVSS 302 cushioning which burns profusely, emitting tremendous volumes of heavy, black, toxic smoke. Unfortunately, many individuals responsible for new vehicle specifications, or maintenance replacement cushions, mistakenly believe that FMVSS 302 provides some level of suitable fire protection. The burn test video comparison completely destroys this myth.

When a breathable fabric is utilized, we recommend using a FR Stretch muslin to avoid abrasion in which some breathable fabrics have a rough (sandpaper like) inner surface.
